B-Haven Texas Apiary

The B-Haven Texas Apiary is up an jamming.

The B-Haven Apiary originally started in Clements, California, located by Lake Comanche.  This was a 47 acre ranch.  It then moved to Sunnyvale, California,
which is a suburban location.  B-Haven Apiary has now been moved to Florence, Texas,
which is an hour North of Austin and 30 minutes from Georgetown.

In a previous blog, I described how I spent a significant amount of time clearing a one acre pasture for the apiary.  The pasture was full of brush, cedar trees, and prickly pear.
Kind of like a jungle.  Now that the pasture is cleared, the wild flowers are blooming –
Mustard, verbena, Indian paintbrush, etc.  And of course the Texas state wild flower – blue bonnets!  The wild flowers brought in the humming birds and the butterflies.

So I decided to start this apiary off with 3 new hives.  I ordered the unassembled hives from Dadant.  They were very helpful.  The only local supplier of queens, that I was able to find, was Bee Weaver.  They are located in Dripping Springs which is 30 minutes South of Austin.  So Bee Weaver is 1.5 hours South of our farm.  So Evelyn and I drove there this Saturday to pick up our bees.  The round trip was under 3 hours.  So the drive was not too bad.

In the past, I have started new hives with Queen Packages, which are a box of worker bees and a queen in a cage.  A Queen Package is created by caging a young queen that has just mated (artificial or natural) with several thousand worker bees in a box.  The queen has to be caged so that the worker bees have time to accept her.  Otherwise they would kill her.

Installing a Queen Package in a hive consists of dumping the worker bees into the hive and adding the Queen Cage and then adding a can of syrup for food.  I like to attach the Queen Cage with a wire so that I can easily get to it.  The Queen Cage has a cork in the entrance.  I replace the cork with a small marsh mellow.  By the time the Worker Bees eat through the marsh mellow, the worker bees have had enough time to accept the queen,
and the queen is now free in the hive to lay eggs.  After 3 days, I check to make sure that the queen has been released from her cage.   It not, the do it by hand.  Once the queen is released from the cage and free then the hive is up and running.

This time I decided to start my new hives by using Hive Nukes.  A Nuke or Nucleus consist of a frame of honey (food), 3 frames of brood with worker bees, and a laying queen.  Installing a Nuke is easy.  Just replace 4 frames in the new hive with the Nuke frames.  I like to spread the frames out by placing an empty frame between each Nuke frame.  This is a simple process that I much prefer over installing Queen Packages.
Nukes are more expensive though.  A Nuke cost is $210.  A Queen Package cost is $120.  But you get what you pay for.  A Nuke also jumps starts the hive.  A Nuke already has frames with brood.  It takes a Queen Package at least 10 days to do that.

So B-Haven Apiary is now alive and well in Florence, Texas.  It currently consists of three hives.  At this time, I am feeding the bees sugar water (50%) to help them build comb.  I will feed them until I add the first honey super.

In the mean time, I am busy clearing brush and cedars from the other 1 acre pasture in the front.  I ordered some blue bonnet and wild flower seeds to help improve the bee forage.  We are looking forward to this year’s honey harvest.

B-Haven Update

Things have been happening at B-Haven, so I thought that I would provide an update.

First of all, I have clearing pasture.  We have three pastures at B-Haven.  Two pastures in the front, each about 1 acre.  And a 7 acre pasture in the back.  The pasture in the back is used by the goats.  We currently have 6 does, 1 buck, and 14 kids.

Both front pastures are full of brush, cedars, and prickly pear.  The brush chokes out the grass.  The cedars suck up all of the water and help kill off the oaks.  And the prickly pear is just down right bad news.

This stuff has two types of spines.  Big bad ones that require pliers to pull out.  And very small spines, somewhat like hairs, that work there way through everything to somehow get into your carcass.  It does not matter what kind of protective gear that you wear.  I tried two pairs of gloves.  It does not matter.   Those little spines will get into all of your skin.  And you have to pull prickly pear out by the roots.   One leaf can generate roots.  I ended up hauling out two pick up truck loads of prickly pear.  I hate that stuff.

I also ended up hauling out a lot of brush and cedars.  A pile that is 100 yards long.  That is only one of the front pastures.  I will harvest what fire wood I can from the pile and chip the rest for mulch.

So I also had a number of dead oak trees in the left front pasture.  I obviously harvested them for fire wood.

The result if very nice.  I will establish my apiary in this pasture in April.  That is when I pick of the Queen Bee Packages.  All three of them.  I am using Bee Weaver this year for my queens.  I like them because they are close enough (about an hour) for me to drive and pick up the packages.  I do not like having them shipped.

Right now, I am assembling the three hives.  Getting ready for the bees.
Stay tuned for my next update after we have installed the Queen Packages.

B-Haven Kidding Report 2014

The B-Haven goats have given birth.  Here is the result.
I would first like to define my Boer Goat Markings:

1)  Standard

The body is mostly white.  The head and shoulders are brown.

2)  Solid

The entire body is almost or completely brown.

3)  Paint

The body is covered with large patches of brown and white.

4)  Speckled

The body is mostly white with speckles.  The head and shoulders are brown.

I bought a buck (Tex) on September 14, 2013.
So the kids were due after February 14, 2014.
Tex is a Paint.

1)  Tiny

This doe was a yearling and the daughter of Rose.
Rose and Tiny are Standards.
She presented her water bag on January 25.
She had been trying to due this the entire month of January.
I called a Vet and he said to leave her alone.
Her water finally broke on January 26.
She was not mobile that day and she was off of her feed.
She went into labour at 2300 that same day.
She died at 0100 on January 27.
I suspect she died from infection.
This was an absolutely terrible pregnancy.
The worst that I have ever been a part of.

2)  Fern

An older, very friendly doe.
At 1330 on February 16, she presented a full leg and nothing else.
After an hour or so and no progress, I suspected her birth canal was blocked.
Probably a kid’s left was out but the head was folded back.

So I called a Vet and brought her in at 1800.
He confirmed by diagnosis and decided to perform a C-Section.
Evelyn and I assisted (somewhat) in the delivery.
I held Fern’s head to help keep her under control.
Apparently, general anaesthesia does not work well in goats.
So the Vet had to use a local, which means the Fern was awake during the procedure.
Which made it even more interesting.
That is why I held Fern’s head on my lap, to help her deal with it.
Evelyn grabbed the kids when they were pulled out.
She dried them off and rubbed them down real good.
Fern had triplets – 2 boys and a girl.
The girl was stuck in the birth canal and was dead.
No surprises there.
I have never seen a C-Section before and they are pretty wild.
The procedure was difficult at times, but Fern is a trooper and the operation was a success.
So both of her surviving kids had trouble nursing.
Not a surprise due to the drugs that Fern received.
So we had to put one of the kids on a hand feeding schedule.

3)  Violet

She gave birth to triplets in the field at 2300 on February 16.
One girl and two boys.
Violet is a Standard.
The girl is a Solid.
The boys are both Standards.
It was cold and misty that night, so we brought the doe and her kids into the barn.
She did not like it and ended up only accepting one boy.
So we had to put the other two kids on a hand feeding schedule.
In hind sight, we should have left the kids alone.

4)  Lavender

She gave birth to twins under a tree in the back.
Birth time was 1200 on February 17.
She is an excellent mother.
She very rarely leaves her kids.
She is a Standard and the kids are also Standards.

5)  Rose

She gave birth at 1430 on February 17,
right next to the front fence.
Which was nice a convenient.
She gave twins.
She is a Standard and the kids are also Standards.
6)  Velvet

She is a yearling and the daughter of Violet.
This was her first pregnancy.
She gave birth at 0900 on February 18,
right next to the water tank.
Which was very convenient.
She gave twins.
She is a Standard and the kids are also Standards.

7)  Nanu

A very old doe (over 10 years old).
She went into labour on February 19.
She started presenting on February 20 at 0700.
She did not make progress by noon, so I called a Vet.
I took her to the Vet at 1800 and he attempted to pull the kid.
The kid’s head was back he could not get it through the birth canal.
So I put Nanu down.

8)  Jezabel

She gave birth to twins on February 21 at 0100.
She is a Standard and the kids are also Standards.
I nice, quick delivery.
I am thankful, especially after Nanu.
This was a good way to end the birthings.

So we have to hand feed three of the kids.
This means that the kids get fed as much as they want every 3 hours for 1 week.
We then shift the schedule to every 4 hours for 8 more weeks.
We started with Goat Milk Replacement Powder.
But one of the kids developed scours, which is very deadly.
So I made some phone calls to the Vet and a local Breeder.
We now feed the kids using the mixture of {1 gallon whole cow’s milk, 1 can evaporated milk, 1 pint heavy cream}.
This stuff does the trick.

So we lost 2 does out of a total of 8, which is not good.
But I did not pick the herd.
I bought it as is.

Out of 6 does that gave birth, we ended up with 14 kids, which is excellent.

Oakland Raiders 2013 Season Summary

So how would I rate the Oakland Raiders 2013 season?

According to the General Manager, this was supposed to be a year of  “destruction”.  This is Reggie McKenzie’s second year as the only General Manager for the Oakland Raiders.  When he took control, he stated that the Raiders were in sad shape, saddled with terrible contracts.  So it would take 2 years for team “destruction” and 2 years for team “construction”.  The Destruction would consist of getting rid of bad contracts, dealing with poor draft positions, and hanging in there.  The Construction would consist of drafting a good foundation.

So fair enough then.  2013 was the final year in the Team Destruction.  And that is a good way to describe this year.  Not much of a change over the last year.

The Raiders do not have a decent quarterback.  Matt Flynn was a bust, so they traded him – good.  The job was handed to Terrelle Pryor.  He is a great athlete but very raw and it showed.  He has too many INTs.  Rookie Mat McGloin is a more traditional pocket passer.  But he also had a bad TD to INT ratio.

So they Raiders need a QB that manages the game well.  Does not turn the ball over and put your Defense in a bad position.  He must have more TDs than INTs.  The Raiders need to draft more QB prospects.  Do NOT take a QB in the first round.  Too expensive and too much of a gamble.  Take a page from the Seahawks and Niners plan and draft a prospect for cheap that has a lot of talent.

Winning starts with Defense.  If the other team does not score, then you most probably will win.  There has never been a  0 – 0 tie in the NFL.  The Raider Defense is not good and is forcing the Offense to try and score more points than they are capable of.  This puts a lot of pressure on the QB.  So the Raider emphasis needs to be Defense.

Second up is the Offensive Line and the Run Game.  The Raiders have a decent Offensive Line.  But their star running back – Darien McFadden has constantly had injury problems.  Get rid of him and draft a quality, cheap back.  There are plenty out there.  Continue to build the Offensive Line.

Finally we need to look at coaching.  Head Coach Dennis Allen is green and has a lot to prove.  The jury is still out for him.  So far I am not impressed.  The team seems a bit more disciplined.  But he seems to passive and not a motivator and leader.  It does not look like the team respects him.  I could be wrong on this.  Maybe this is a part of the 2 Year Deconstruction Plan.

2014 is crucial.  We need to see some progress.

I would love it if the Raiders could get Grudden to come back.  That would be awesome.  A proven winner and leader.

So in conclusion, 2013 was the end of the Deconstruction.  So let us commence with the Construction.

San Francisco 49ers 2013 Season Summary

Last year the Niners won their Division and made it to the Super Bowl.  But they blew it.  They were psyched out and made too many mistakes.  They should have won the Super Bowl.

This year the Niners did NOT win their Division.  But they still made it to the NFC Championship.  They had to travel to Seattle for that game.  They played the Seahawks really well.  In fact, they out played them.  But they made too many mistakes.  Seattle played a mistake free game.  Kaepernick had two terrible picks.  They gave up a big play on Special Teams.  They gave up two stupid plays on Defense.  And that was that.

The good news is that they seemed to have figured out how to deal with the Seattle crowd noise.  This is nice, since the last two times the Niners went up there, they got blown out.   In large part because of communication problems.  Obviously the Cardinals have figured it out too, since they beat the Seahawks in Seattle.

So how would I rate this year for the Niners?  They have made it to the NFC Championship the last three years, which is very good.  But they have only won the NFC Championship once.  They should have won it all three times.

They started out the season hot beating the Packers in Green Bay.  But then got killed by the Seahawks in Seattle and  got beat by the Panthers on the road in a close one.  They played a great Wild Card Weekend game in Green Bay.

So the Seattle loss was mostly due to communication problems.  Which they solved in the NFC Championship.  They also beat Seattle at home.  The Defensive Backfield seems more aggressive, which is great.  They are starting to act like Ronnie Lott.  I can live with Personal Foul penalties from these guys.  They refs are bitches anyway.

The LineBacking core is solid.  The Defensive Line is solid.  The Running Backs need to continue to mature.  Mr. Frank Gore is getting old and he cannot carry the entire load.

The big problem is Mr. Colin Kaepernick.  He is throwing too many picks.  He is telegraphing his passes.  He is not reading his progressions.  He seems to decide where he is going to throw the ball, before the play starts.  He really needs to work on this.  He should hire some personal QB Coach to help him with this in the off season.  He needs to stop forcing the ball.  Throw the ball to were our guy catches it or no one catches it.  He has a great ground game and he is a great runner himself.  He needs to let the game come to him.  Take what the Defense gives you.

I would like to see more of a pass rush on defense.  This might be a Coaching problem.

So in conclusion.  On one hand, this season was a disappointment, since the Niners were good enough to win the Super Bowl.  But on the other hand, they are a very good team that just needs a few tweaks and they could be very dominating.

NFL 2013 Super Bowl Summary

The Seattle Seahawks won in a rather dominating fashion 43 – 8.  I picked the Broncos to win.  No one picked Denver to lose like this.

Seattle won the coin toss and deferred to the Second Half.   So Denver had the ball first.  On the first play of the game, the Denver Center hiked the ball over Peyton Manning’s head.  The result was a safety.  What a terrible way to start the game.  And for the Broncos, the first play was indicative of the entire game.  The game went down hill for them after that play.  After the game, Peyton was asked about that play.  He said that the noise was too loud and the Offensive had a difficult time communicating.  So how could you not expect the Seattle Fans to be load.  Yes the game was not in Seattle, but for the last two seasons, Seattle Fans are on the loud side.  How could you not know that?  For the last two seasons, visiting teams to Seattle have had a terrible time communicating in the noise.  We all know that Seattle has the loudest fan base, but until you experience it for your self, you are not prepared.  Denver fell into the same trap during the Super Bowl.  This is a coaching break down.

For the Seahawks, QB Russell Wilson had 2 TDs and no INTs.  And he was not sacked.  Great job by the Offensive Line.  Wilson played a great game in that he did not force the ball.  He was patient.  At the beginning of the game, he was rather tight for the first two series.  But he quickly loosened up and settled down and took what the defense gave him.

For the Broncos, QB Peyton Manning had 1 TD and 2 INTs and was only sacked once.  So Peyton had a bad day.  He was under some duress and he did force the ball at times.  It did take him a while to settle down and get into rhythm.  Clearly, the Denver Offense was not able to match the intensity of the Seattle Defense.  This is another coaching error.

Seattle ran for a total of 135 yards and a 4.7 yards per carry average, which is very good.  And they did not lose a fumble.  But Denver held Marshawn Lynch to 39 yards and a 2.6 yards per carry average, which is great.

The Seattle Offense was able to put on sustained drives that kept the ball out of Peyton’s hands.  They were able to squeak out first downs.  The Seattle Offense is not great.  It was surprising that the Denver Defense not get off of the field in the first half.  They did hold them to field goals in the first quarter.  But Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio got beat by the Seattle Offense.  Another Denver coaching failure.

The Broncos ran for 27 yards and a 1.9 yards per carry average, which is terrible.  And they lost the ball twice.  The complete lack of a running game meant that the entire offensive load was on Peyton.  This is a tough call to make against the Number 1 Defense.  Another Denver coaching error.

Denver did win the penalty battle 5 – 10.  But we all know that Pete Carroll likes the Ghetto Mentality.  This is the Seahawk Spirit and the League lets them get away with it.  Why don’t the Raiders get away with it?

The Seahawks also stored a TD on a kickoff return.  Kick Coverage is 100% mental.  Another Denver coaching failure.

The classic way to beat Peyton Manning, is to play ball control on offense and keep the ball out of his plans.  Seattle had a great game plan and was well prepared.  They had great intensity and beat Denver in all three phases of the game.

So Peyton Manning is the season MVP.  And we all supposedly know that the NFL is all about quarterbacks.  Oh really?  Peyton Manning set the record for most TDs and Passing Yards in a season.  He is an obvious Hall of Famer.  So how did that work out for you Denver?  Football is the ultimate Team Sport.  Defense wins championships.  No one player can carry a team.  Ask Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins about that.

A Seattle Line Backer got the Game MVP.  I think it should have gone to the entire Seattle Defense.  What a great job of shutting down the Denver Run Game.  What a great job of putting pressure on Peyton and disrupting his timing.  What a great job of not giving up the big play and forcing Denver to drive the entire length of the field.  What a great job of discipline on special teams.

Jack Del Rio failed in this game in running the Denver Defense  This makes sense because he also failed as the Head Coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Denver did a great job of shutting down Marshawn Lynch, but failed at times to contain Russell Wilson.  They also blew coverage at times.  They were not aggressive enough and were not able to put pressure on Russell Wilson.

The Seattle Offensive Line deserved a piece of the Game MVP.

You will notice all of the Denver Coaching Errors that I have noted.  John Fox is not a great coach.  This makes sense because he was not a great coach at the Carolina Panthers.  He was a decent coach then and he is a decent coach now.  He bet everything on Peyton Manning and forgot that football is a team sport.

So hats off to Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks.  They out played and out coached the Denver Broncos.

NFL 2013 Super Bowl Preview

The Super Bowl is upon us this Sunday.  The Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos.  So here is my analysis of the game.

This game features the Number 1 Defense (Seattle) and the Number 1 Offense (Denver).  So this is a very tough game to predict.

Seattle’s Defense is very good.  They put great pressure on the QB.  Their Defense Backs are big and strong and very physical.

But Denver’s Defense is pretty good.  They shut down the Patriots in the AFC Championship.  The Niners Offense did ok against the Seattle Defense in the NFC Championship.  They were able to move the ball.

Peyton Manning is the best and he is hot.  But the Denver Run Game is not great.

Seattle has a great Run Game.  Russell Wilson is a very talented QB that can run the ball.  His pocket passing skills are ok.

To beat the Denver Offense, Seattle needs to control the Denver Passing Game and not give up the big play.  Try to force them to run the ball.  Try to get some pressure on Manning.  Disrupt his timing.  Beat up the receivers.  In addition, if Seattle can establish the Run Game and win the Time of Possession Battle, then they can keep the ball out of Peyton’s hands.

To beat the Seattle Offense, Denver needs to stop the Seattle Run Game and force them to pass the ball.  They must keep Russell Wilson in the pocket.  This requires a contained rush.  Do not give up the big play.

There is a huge amount of hype surrounding the Super Bowl.  It is easy for players to get caught up in it and lose focus.

Denver is led by Peyton Manning who has already been to the Super Bowl and won it.  Been there, done that.  He needs to lead his team and force them to focus on the game.  Party all you want after the game.

Seattle is young and these players have not been to the Super Bowl before.  So I suspect that they will get caught up in the glamour to some extent.  This will hurt them.

The bottom line.  Seattle will have a tough time stopping Peyton.  Denver’s Defense is good enough to control the Seattle Offense.  Seattle gets a bit psyched out by the atmosphere.  Denver wins the Super Bowl.

One more thing.  It is so nice to see the game played outside in the cold.  This is real manly football.  Do not cater to women and children.  The Half Time Show is a joke.  It completely lacks class and it caters to the teenage crowd.  So what percentage of the Teenage Crowd cares about football and will actually watch the game?  The Half Time Show should be about America.  How about a tribute to the Medal of Honor winners?

NFL 2013 Conference Championships

The Broncos won in a convincing fashion 26 – 16.

For the Broncos, QB Peyton Manning had 2 TDs and no INTs.  And he was not sacked.  Great job by the offensive line.

For the Pats, QB Tom Brady had 1 TD and no INTs and was sacked twice.

The Broncos ran for 107 yards and a 3.8 yards per carry average, which is ok.  And they did not lose a fumble.

The Pats ran for 64 yards and a 4.0 yards per carry average, which does not cut it.  They also did not lose a fumble.

The Pats did win the penalty battle 2 – 4.  A nice clean game.

Tom Brady was not on his game.  His passes were not crisp and he was missing receivers.  The Pats Run Game hurst them.  They were not able to control the clock and keep Peyton off of the field.

On the other hand, Peyton was on his game.  The Broncos controlled the game and they outplayed the Patriots.

The Seahawks won a close one 23 – 17.

For the Seahawks, QB Russell Wilson had 1 TD and no INTs and was only sacked once.

For the Niners, QB Collen Kaepernick had 1 TD and 2 INTs and was sacked twice.

The Seahawks ran for 115 yards and a 4.0 yards per carry average, which is decent.  But they did lose a fumble.

The Niners ran for 161 yards and a 5.8 yards per carry average, which is good.  But they also lost a fumble.

The Niners did win the penalty battle 7 – 8.

This was a hard fought game between two teams that hate each other.  The Refs really did a pathetic job.  They were in full Bitch Mode against the Niners again.  I suspect that they wore tampons in the game.  There were 2 absolutely stupid Personal Foul calls against the Niners.  The Refs also missed a fumble turn over on the Niner Goal Line.  Thank goodness that these Bitch Calls did not throw the game.

The Niners lost because they beat themselves.  They gave up 2 stupid long passes on Defense.  How can a receiver get behind you (wide open) in Double Coverage?  Special Teams Kick Coverage was spotty at best.  And Kaepernick threw 2 stupid INTS.  He has had problems with this all year and it really caught up to him in this game.  You cannot under throw the ball.  He threw the ball up for grabs in the End Zone at the end of the game, which is exactly what Seattle likes.  Colin is not seeing the field well and he has not mastered the art of reading defenses.

Seattle won because they played mistake free ball.

NFL 2013 Division Championships

New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks won 23 – 15.

For the Seahawks, QB Russell Wilson had no TDs and no INTs and was sacked thrice.  So he played ok.

For the Saints, QB Drew Brees had 1 TD and no INTs and was only sacked once.  So he played ok.  The Saints rely on spectacular play from him.  So he had a bit of a let down.

The Seahawks ran for 174 yards and a 5.0 yards per carry average, which is very nice.  And they did not lose a fumble.

The Saints ran for 108 yards and a 4.2 yards per carry average, which is good.  But they did lose a fumble.  This killed them.

The Seahawks also won the penalty battle 6 – 8.

A touch loss for the Saints.  They were competitive but a number of players did not show up.  The Field Goal kicker and the Running Back – Ingram.  On the first drive, he dropped a wide open screen play.  And then fumbled on the next drive.  This killed them.

The Seahawks did not blow the Saints away.  The Saints seemed to handle the crowd quite well.  I suspect that the Seahawks peaked earlier in the year and defenses are doing a better job containing them.

Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots

The Patriots won 43 – 22.

For the Patriots, QB Tom Brady had no TDs and no INTs and was sacked twice.  When was the last time that you saw the Patriots win handily without Brady throwing a TD?

For the Colts, QB Andrew Luck had 2 TDs and 4 INTs and was sacked thrice.  He had a rough night.

The Patriots ran for 234 yards and a 5.1 yards per carry average, which is unreal for the Pats this year.  And they did not lose a fumble.  This is why they did not throw the ball much.

The Colts ran for 69 yards and a 3.3 yards per carry average, which is poor.  They at least did not lose a fumble.

Both teams only had 4 penalties.  A nice clean game.

Andrew Luck and the Colts got schooled.  They received an education as to what playoff football is all about.

San Francisco 49ers at Carolina Panthers

The Niners won convincingly 23 – 10.

For the Niners, QB Colin Kaepernick had 1 TD and no INTs and was only sacked once.  He had a nice day.

For the Panthers, QB Cam Newton had 1 TD and 2 INTs.  He had a rough day.  He was also sacked 5 times.  Great job by the Niner Defense.

The Niners ran for 126 yards and a 3.7 yards per carry average, which is decent.  And they did not lose a fumble.

The Panthers ran for 93 yards and a 3.9 yards per carry average, which is ok.  They also did not lose a fumble.

The Niners also won the penalty battle 5 – 8.

Great win by the Niners on the road.  Overall, the Defense was stellar.  They held the Panthers to under 100 yards on the ground.  They picked off Cam twice.  They did give up some yards in the first half but made 2 great goal line stands.  The Half Time adjustments were awesome.

The Niners are continuing to improve on Offense.  A nice performance against a quality defense.

Once again the refs had a difficult day.  They made a personal foul call on the Niner Defense that was so pathetic, it was a joke.  The refs are still bitches.

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

The Broncos won a close one 24 – 17.

For the Broncos, QB Peyton Manning had 2 TDs and 1 INT.  So he did not have a great day.  But he was not sacked.  Great job by the Offensive Line.

For the Chargers, QB Phillip Rivers had 2 TDs and no INTs.  So he had a nice night.  But he was sacked 4 times.

The Broncos ran for 133 yards and a 3.9 yards per carry average, which is good.  But they did lose a fumble.

The Chargers ran for 65 yards and a 3.6 yards per carry average, which is not good.  They at least did not lose a fumble.

The Broncos also won the penalty battle 6 – 8.

The Chargers came close but they were over matched.  Not an impressive victory by the Broncos.

NFL 2013 WildCard Weekend Summary

Kansas City Chiefs at Indianapolis Colts

The Colts won a thriller 45 – 44.  The Colts were down by 28 points in the third quarter.  This was the second largest come back in playoff history.

For the Colts, QB Andrew Luck had 4 TDs and 3 INTs and was only sacked once.  So he had a wild, up and down day.

For the Chiefs, QB Alex Smith had 4 TDs and no INTs and was sacked twice.  So he had a great day.

The Colts ran for exactly 100 yards and a 5.3 yards per carry average, which is nice.  But they did lose a fumble.

The Chiefs ran for 150 yards and a 4.7 yards per carry average, which is even nicer.  They also lost a fumble.

The Chiefs did win the penalty battle 2 – 4.   A nice clean game by both teams.

The Chiefs flat out blew it.  The Defense is supposed to be the strength of this team.  How can you be strong and give up a 28 point lead?

Nice win for the Colts.  Way to hang in there.

New Orleans Saints at Philadelphia Eagles

The Saints came marching into Phily and won a close one 26 – 24.

For the Saints, QB Drew Brees had 1 TD and 2 INTs and was sacked twice.  So he had a rough night.

For the Eagles, QB Nick Foley had 2 TDs and no INTs and was also sacked twice.  So he played better than Brees.

The Saints ran for 185 yards and a 5.1 yards per carry average, which is out standing.  And they did not give up a fumble.

The Eagles, ran for 80 yards and a 3.6 yards per carry average, which is ok.  They at least did not lose a fumble.

The Eagles did win the penalty battle 4 – 7.

Nice win by the Saints on the road.

Both Brees and Foles attended the same High School in Austin, Texas.  And for some crazy reason, they both were not recruited by the UT.

The Saint Defense won the day.

San Diego Chargers at Cincinnati Bengals

The Chargers won a bit of an upset 27 – 10.

For the Chargers, QB Phillip Rivers had 1 TD and no INTs and was only sacked once.  So he had a nice day.

For the Bengals, QB Andy Dalton had 1 TD and 2 INTs and was sacked thrice.  He had a terrible night.  His turn overs killed the Bengals.

The Chargers ran for 196 yards and a 4.9 yards per carry average, which is awesome.  And they did not lose a fumble.

The Bengals ran for 113 yards and a 4.5 yards per carry average, which is ok.  But they lost 2 fumbles.

The Bengals did win the penalty battle 4 – 5.  A clean game by both teams.

Great win by the Chargers and Mr. Phillip Rivers on the road.  Nice game plan.  Well executed.

Andy Dalton’s INTs are killing the Bengals.  The fumbles did not help much either.

San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers

The Niners won a close one 23 – 20.  They kicked a field goal to win it in the closing seconds.  This was a very cold night.  The air temp at game time was a whole 5 degrees.

For the Niners, QB Colin Kaepernick had 1 TD and 1 INT and was sacked thrice.  He had a decent night.  The INT was as great Defensive Play.  He ran for 98 yards.  He seemed to have trouble with accuracy on long passes.  Perhaps the cold was at fault.

For the Packers, QB Aaron Rodgers, had 1 TD and no INTs and was sacked 4 times.

The Niners ran for 167 yards and a 5.6 yards per carry average, which is dang great.  And they did not lose a fumble.

The Pack ran for 124 yards and a 4.0 yards per carry average, which is good.  They also did not lose a fumble.

The Niners also won the penalty battle 2 – 3.  A great clean game.  It was obvious that the refs were letting the players play.  That is nice.  But on the last Green Bay TD, Aaron Rodgers should have been sacked.  He was not because of an obvious hold on a Niner Defensive Lineman.  The refs totally blew that one.  The Pack did not deserve to win.

Great win by the Niners on the road in brutal weather.  The Defense was strong and studly and performed some serious harassment of Aaron Rodgers.  Kap needs to focus on his progressions.  He is not seeing some of the open receivers.  The Red Zone Offense also needs work.  No more field goals.
